Wasini Shimoni Group Adventure 2026 — Shimoni Reef Lodge | Ruby Voyages

Introduction

The Wasini Shimoni group adventure is one of the most complete coastal Kenya experiences available right now — four days at Shimoni Reef Lodge that cover coral reef snorkelling, dolphin spotting, a Wasini Island guided hike, and a sundowner cruise with fresh seafood served on the boat. This is the Kenya coast for people who want to actually do something, not just sit on a beach.

Ruby Voyages has put together a group-rated package at Shimoni Reef Lodge that rewards larger groups with better rates per person. The more people you bring, the lower the cost per head — making this an ideal trip for friend groups, family groups, and corporate teams looking for an adventure-based coastal escape.

Spots are limited by group size and lodge availability. If this sounds like the trip your group has been talking about, this is the moment to make it happen.

Wasini and Shimoni Group Adventure — 4 Days / 3 Nights at Shimoni Reef Lodge. Full itinerary included: Shimoni Slave Caves, Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, Wasini Island guided hike, Sundowner Cruise with seafood dinner, complimentary late checkout. Group rates from KES 45,250 per person (12 pax) to KES 67,750 per person (4 pax). Contact Ruby Voyages to confirm your group size and dates.

Where Is Shimoni Reef Lodge?

Shimoni Reef Lodge sits on the Shimoni Peninsula in the southernmost tip of the Kenya coast — right on the edge of the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, one of Kenya’s most spectacular and protected marine environments. The lodge is positioned directly on the water, with immediate access to the reef, the channel, and the departure point for all marine excursions.

Shimoni itself is a small coastal village with a remarkable history. The area is named after the Shimoni Slave Caves — a network of coral caves used during the East African slave trade, now a significant heritage site that forms part of Day 1 of this itinerary. The combination of natural beauty and historical depth makes Shimoni unlike anywhere else on the Kenya coast.

From Nairobi, Shimoni is approximately a one-hour flight to Mombasa or Ukunda, followed by a road transfer south along the coast. Ruby Voyages handles all transfers as part of the group booking. For flight options from Nairobi, see our guide to best flight deals from Nairobi 2026.

The Wasini Shimoni Group Adventure — 4-Day Itinerary

Every day of this itinerary is built around the natural environment of the Shimoni Peninsula and Wasini Island. Nothing is generic. Nothing is rushed.

Day Programme
Day 1 — Arrival and Shimoni Experience Arrive at Shimoni Reef Lodge and check in. Afternoon kayak session on the channel, a guided Shimoni village walk, or a visit to the historic Shimoni Slave Caves — one of Kenya’s most significant coastal heritage sites.
Day 2 — Kisite Mpunguti Marine Adventure Full-day trip to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park. Snorkelling over vibrant coral reefs, deep-sea diving, and dolphin spotting in the channel. Scuba diving available at an extra cost for certified divers.
Day 3 — Wasini Island Tour and Sundowner Cruise Guided hiking experience through Wasini Island’s coral landscapes and coastal villages. From 4pm to 10pm: a magical Sundowner Cruise along the Wasini Channel — snorkelling, swimming, a breathtaking sunset, and a fresh seafood dinner served on the boat.
Day 4 — Relax and Departure Complimentary late checkout. A final swim in the lodge pool. Leave Shimoni refreshed, inspired, and planning the return trip.

Day 3 is the one people talk about: The Wasini Island Sundowner Cruise runs from 4pm to 10pm along the Wasini Channel — snorkelling and swimming as the sun drops, followed by a fresh seafood dinner served on the boat as the stars come out. It is an experience that is very difficult to replicate anywhere else on the Kenya coast.

Diving and Snorkelling at Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park

Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park is one of the most biodiverse marine environments in Kenya — a fully protected national park where the reef has been allowed to thrive without the pressure of uncontrolled fishing or tourism. The results are visible the moment you put your head underwater.

Coral coverage is dense and healthy. Fish life is abundant. And the Shimoni Channel is one of the most reliable places on the entire East African coast to encounter spinner dolphins in their natural habitat — not in a managed encounter, but in open water as the dhow moves through the channel.

For certified scuba divers, Kisite Mpunguti offers wall dives, reef dives, and pelagic encounters that rank among the best available in Kenya. Scuba diving is available at an extra cost and can be organised through the lodge for all certified divers in the group.

Who Is the Wasini Shimoni Group Adventure Best Suited For?

This itinerary works best for three types of group. First, friend groups of four to twelve people who want a proper coastal adventure — not a standard beach holiday. The combination of marine activity, cultural history, and the Day 3 sundowner cruise gives a group a shared experience that holds the trip together. Second, family groups with older children or teenagers who can participate in snorkelling, kayaking, and the full-day marine excursion. Third, corporate teams looking for an adventure-based retreat close to the Kenya coast — the structured itinerary and villa accommodation make this a practical and high-impact option for team outings.

For corporate group retreat planning more broadly, see our guide to how to plan a corporate retreat abroad.

Why Book Through Ruby Voyages?

Ruby Voyages handles every element of the Wasini Shimoni group adventure — flights from Nairobi, road transfers to Shimoni, lodge confirmation, marine excursion coordination, and group logistics throughout the trip.
